Frequently Asked Questions:
Q.
How long
does it take to set up an account with you?
A. Setting
up a new account typically occurs within 6 - 12 hours. However if
you are transferring to Host-Island.com it may take 48 -72 hours
for your domain name to properly propagate the Internet Domain Name
Servers. You can FTP your files to your new site as soon as you
have received your account setup confirmation. Accounts configured
with FrontPage are not accessable until the domain name is actively
pointing to the new location.
Q.
I just registered
a new domain, when will my new domain be active?
A. New
domains take 24 - 48 hours to be active. This is the amount of time
that it takes to register the new domain and to let all of the Domain
Name Servers find the new location of the new domain.
Q.
What is
a Domain Name Server (DNS)?
A. A
Domain Name Server(DNS) is like a phone book for internet domains.
DNS Tells your browser where to find a domain.
Q.
I uploaded
my site but I still see the welcome page, what did I do wrong?
A1.
To
properly display your home page your home page must be a file called
index.html or index.htm. The server will look for a file called
index.html first and index.htm second. The welcome page is index.html.
You must either overwrite this page or delete this page in order
for your home page to display.
A2.
If
you are using FTP, you may have uploaded your files to the wrong
place. Be certain that your files have been placed in the main "/web"
directory if you place them in your user's web directory they will
not be displayed. For more information on FTP see our Support
Page.
